Product description

Experience the raw, unfiltered energy of The Cure live in concert with "Concert: The Cure Live," the band's debut live album. Captured during their iconic "The Top" tour in 1984, this album is a testament to The Cure's powerful stage presence and their ability to captivate audiences. Recorded at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon in London and in Oxford, these live performances showcase the band's signature new wave and post-punk sounds, with a touch of darkwave that has become synonymous with their name.

"Concert: The Cure Live" features live renditions of some of The Cure's most beloved tracks, including "Shake Dog Shake," "Primary," and "A Forest." The album also includes new live versions of classic songs like "10:15 Saturday Night" and "Killing An Arab," offering fans a fresh perspective on these timeless tunes. With a total runtime of 42 minutes, this album is a concise yet powerful snapshot of The Cure's live performances during this pivotal period in their career.

The cassette tape edition of the album includes an additional twin album titled "Curiosity (Killing the Cat): Cure Anomalies 1977–1984," featuring rare and previously unreleased tracks from throughout The Cure's career. This bonus material provides an even deeper dive into the band's discography, making this release a treasure trove for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Released on October 22, 1984, via Polydor Records, "Concert: The Cure Live" is a must-listen for anyone interested in the evolution of new wave and post-punk music. The album's raw energy and powerful performances make it a standout release in The Cure's extensive discography, and a testament to the band's enduring influence on the music world.

This is a 1992 Reissue released as a LP.

The best Cure live album. While later albums showcase the poppier side of the band, Concert displays the transition from their goth phase to their new wave one. Some of their best songs from both eras appear here, and are all equal to their studio counterparts through the sheer enthusiasm of the performances, as well as the great sound production. Highly Recommended for all Cure fans, as well as all gothic and new wave fans. (People who love The Chameleons, Joy Division, The Fall and The Church will also find much to love here)

An absolut great sound and for me one of their best recorded live concerts indeed! Intense, powerful and, above all, you can clearly hear the band's passion for live playing from this period!

A favourite live albumI have to shamelessly gush over this classic live album, one of my all time favourite lps, let alone live lps. What rules on this release is the thick, dark, murky sound and atmosphere. Very few releases capture the claustrophobic gloom that occasionally rises to transcendent beauty which is the heart of gothic rock like this. Maybe Bauhaus' Bela Lugosi, the first Sisters lp and some of Joy Division's tracks. This is right up there in that august company. I could talk about the heavy, pummeling drumming, the dynamic bass playing, Robert Smith's swirling guitar, his vocal delivery full of feeling: scorn, anger, exhaustion, anomie, despair, desperation, sly humour. I could compare the songs to their album versions or pick nits about this or that aspect. But forget all that analytical pretence, this album is all about atmosphere, and a darker, gloomier, smokier, more exhausted vibe is not easily come by. For me, this is the Cure at their gothic best, the culmination of their dark trilogy: Faith, 17 Seconds and Pornography. If, like me, you like gothic rock and think these Cure albums were their best, then you just have to get this great live document. A long way from the jangly radio pop that was to come, this is just great.

About The Cure

The Cure, hailing from Crawley, England, are a pioneering force in the new wave and post-punk genres, known for their moody, introspective sound that often delves into Gothic imagery and melancholic themes. Formed in 1976 by Robert Smith and Lol Tolhurst, the band has undergone numerous lineup changes, with Smith remaining the sole constant member. Their discography spans over four decades, including fourteen studio albums and a wealth of live and compilation releases. The Cure's music is a journey through the human condition, with Smith's distinctive vocals and guitar work at the helm. The band's influence is vast, and their live performances are legendary, with plans for a full world tour in 2025, marking their 50th anniversary. With a style that is both innovative and timeless, The Cure continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
