First off, I mistakenly purchased the US 2021 reissue, which was a real letdown—terrible sound quality, flimsy paper sleeves, and debris all over the records. But then I got my hands on this European version, and wow, what a difference! It's not flawless, but it's a huge step up: clear sound for the most part, clean records, and poly-lined inner sleeves. Overall, it's decent and enjoyable. There's just a bit of minor distortion and slight sibilance on some tracks. Heads up, though, many European shops seem to be stocking the US version for some reason. If you can find it, definitely go for this one instead.
The So So Def Remix of the Special Edition has a distinct mix compared to the single version (talking about The One EP by MC30).
My 2021 version seems to be missing some punch and sounds kind of dull. I kinda wish I'd gotten one of the others that people were talking about, haha. The VMP one might be better, but I'm just using mine as a decoration at the moment…
The music is fantastic and I'm a huge fan of the cover art! I actually encountered MC for the first time when this album came out, so it's really meaningful to me.
This album release is absolutely stunning in terms of sound quality. The mastering and pressing are top-notch. There's not a single pop or distortion, and the music has never sounded this good. The European reissues of Mariah's Def Jam era albums are the ones you should definitely get. Stay away from the USA pressings, though. They're muddy, overly compressed, and have tons of inner groove distortion.
