Product description

Daniel Herskedal's seventh album as leader, Call for Winter, is a masterful creation that embodies sonorous beauty and majestic flow. Released on 26 June 2020 via Edition Records, this 12-track album is a testament to Herskedal's innovative spirit and musical prowess. Building upon the foundation laid by the opening track of his 2015 album Slow Eastbound Train, The Mistral Noir, Call for Winter erects layers of solo tuba and bass trumpet into an imposing edifice of sound.

With a duration of 38 minutes, this contemporary jazz album takes the listener on a journey through a winter wonderland of sound, with each track meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of awe-inspiring beauty. From the haunting melodies of Våkenatt to the icy landscapes of Glacier Hiking and Ice Crystals, Herskedal's tuba and bass trumpet weave a rich tapestry of sound that is both refreshing and original.

Featuring a range of evocative track titles, including The Hunting Golden Eagle, Lynx Tracks, and The Cliff Nest, Call for Winter is an album that transports the listener to a world of frozen landscapes and majestic wildlife. With its unique blend of solo instrumentation and layered soundscapes, this album is a definitive statement from Daniel Herskedal, showcasing his skill as a musician and his ability to craft music that is both beautiful and captivating. Fantastic white vinyl edition of a strikingly beautiful album that offers an engrossing soundscape. The copy I received included an A5 insert featuring an essay by Daniel about the creation of this album, and it's even signed by him!
