The quality of this pressing is super high, but the splatter effect is a bit hit or miss (I've got one disc that's half plain blue)
In my view, this isn't the best showcase for LP sound quality, but it's a fantastic representation of the music itself: Since "Stakes Is High," De La hasn't delivered an album quite like this one. I can't stop myself from drawing parallels to Tribe's most recent album, not in terms of audio, but because it's a poignant release, knowing this is the final time we'll experience Dave teaming up with Mase and Posdnous on new tracks. It's also comparable due to the initial doubt surrounding its quality, which it has shattered, exceeding many listeners' expectations. Much like the final ATCQ album, which was completed and released following the passing of Phife (RIP). "Cabin In The Sky" is, without a doubt, my top pick in Mass Appeal's "Legend Has It" series, and it might just be my favorite mainstream Hip Hop release in recent years. The lyrics, the beats and production, and the themes of family, friendship, loss, and growth are akin to enjoying a warm plate of your favorite comfort food on a chilly, dreary day. Premier has crafted some of his finest beats here in a while (the standout "EN EFF" featuring Black Thought is just one of many gems). Pete Rock's "Different World" beat is now permanently lodged in my mind, and I'm perfectly okay with that. Trugoy's funky "Yuhdontstop" beat, adorned with a lush string section, gives it a cinematic 70's soul vibe. Simply stunning. De La has outdone themselves on this one and nailed it perfectly. The intro might be a tad long, but after that, it's a 70-minute listening journey that demands my full attention. De La Soul is back and better than ever. Thanks, Dave.
i aint really one to write reviews but ill just say this, music be hittin that is all.
This "Legend Has It" drop was carried by its guests, though they weren't fully put to use on "Cabin In The Sky" - I ain't tryna hear Killer Mike covering "Dear Mama". Preemo and Pete Rock's beats feel like leftovers, and Slick Rick doesn't even spit a verse. I wasn't expecting much from this De La joint, it's way too bright considering it's about death. I'll stick with The Beatnuts and Busta for my Native Tongues cravings, wouldn't have even checked this if not for the "Legend Has It" series. "Cabin In The Sky" is as soft as De La usually is. Deleted it as soon as the tape ended - it's way too long, longer than any other Mass Appeal drop this year.-DJ C.V.R.2nd/Dec.MMXXV
