About Herbie Mann

Herbie Mann, born Herbert Jay Solomon, was a pioneering American jazz flutist and a key figure in the early world music scene. Starting his career as a saxophonist in a military band, Mann soon made a name for himself by specializing in the flute, becoming one of the first jazz musicians to do so. His versatile career spanned a wide range of genres, including Latin jazz, Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, soul jazz, jazz funk, and cool jazz.
