Herbie Mann's title track on this album is absolutely fantastic. Grab a copy - it's incredibly groovy!

  • Herbie's Scorching Norwegian Wood

    5 out of 5 stars

Once more, Herbie delivers! Chick Ganimian's oud playing on Norwegian Wood is simply scorching, with solos that could challenge even John McLaughlin himself. I'm a huge fan of Herbie's work from '67 to '72, spanning from this album to his live triumph, Hold On! I'm Coming! He's a master at drawing listeners into a trance, with tracks stretching up to 18 minutes yet never feeling overdone.

About Herbie Mann

Herbie Mann, born Herbert Jay Solomon, was a pioneering American jazz flutist and a key figure in the early world music scene. Starting his career as a saxophonist in a military band, Mann soon made a name for himself by specializing in the flute, becoming one of the first jazz musicians to do so. His versatile career spanned a wide range of genres, including Latin jazz, Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, soul jazz, jazz funk, and cool jazz. Mann gained significant popularity in the 1960s and ventured into pop, Latin, reggae, and disco in the 1970s. His most notable hit, "Hi-Jack," topped the Billboard dance charts for three weeks in 1975. Known for his prolific output and beloved in jazz circles, Herbie Mann's music continues to captivate audiences with its innovative blend of styles and infectious rhythms.
