Product description

Ozric Tentacles' fifth studio album, Arborescence, is a seminal work in the band's discography, released on 1 January 1994. This iconic album marks the last appearance of drummer Merv Pepler and keyboardist Joie Hinton as full-time band members, who would later go on to form Eat Static.

Arborescence is a masterclass in blending genres, effortlessly merging space rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, krautrock, and acid rock to create a unique sound that is quintessentially Ozric Tentacles. The album's eight tracks, including 'Astro Cortex', 'Yog-Bar-Og', and 'Arborescence', showcase the band's ability to craft intricate, immersive soundscapes that transport listeners to new dimensions.

With a duration of 49 minutes, Arborescence is a carefully crafted journey that showcases Ed Wynne's exceptional guitar and synth work, as well as the band's penchant for experimentation and creativity. The album has been re-released several times, including a 1999 reissue on Snapper Music with sleeve notes by Andy Garibaldi, and a 2020 remaster by Ed Wynne himself.

As one of the most influential bands to emerge from the UK's festival scene, Ozric Tentacles has built a loyal following, and Arborescence is a testament to their innovative spirit and musical prowess. This album is a must-listen for fans of progressive and psychedelic rock, and its influence can still be felt today. With its rich textures, complex rhythms, and soaring melodies, Arborescence is an album that continues to inspire and delight listeners to this day.

This 2022 Reissue Remastered LP is pressed on Black vinyl.

  • Ozric Masterpiece with Joie and Merv

    5 out of 5 stars
    boacxcdecvFebruary 10, 2025United KingdomπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Among the greatest Ozric albums ever made, I reckon this was the final one featuring Joie and Merv. They departed afterwards to focus on their side project, Eat Static. Yog-Bar-Og has to be one of my all-time favorite Ozric tunes, showcasing how the band can merge diverse musical segments flawlessly. The title track is a stunning ambient creation. If you're a fan, I'd strongly suggest checking out the Spacelines album by Ed, Joie, and Merv under the name Nodens Ictus. Dance of the Loomi is a pleasant programmed piece with guitar layered over it. Quite smooth. Astro Cortex and Myriapod deliver plenty of guitar-driven excitement. Zia's basslines are unforgettable on this album, particularly on There's a Planet Here. A fantastic mix of live band performance and programmed tracks. Highly recommended for those exploring or trying out the Ozric's sound.

  • Ozrics Remastered: Bass-Heavy Brilliance

    5 out of 5 stars
    yzumarort9July 18, 2024United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

In my opinion, this brilliant remastered edition tends to be a bit too bass-heavy at times, especially on side one. That being said, I must commend Ozrics, they truly are a top-notch band.

About Ozric Tentacles

Ozric Tentacles, hailing from Somerset, England, are a pioneering instrumental rock band that have been weaving their sonic tapestry since 1983. Born from the counterculture of the Stonehenge Free Festival, their music is a kaleidoscopic blend of psychedelic rock, progressive rock, space rock, and a myriad of other genres, creating a unique sound that transcends conventional boundaries. With over 30 albums released and a million copies sold worldwide, Ozric Tentacles have never been confined by major labels, instead forging their own path through handmade cassette releases and a dedicated fan club. Fronted by the ever-present guitarist Ed Wynne, the band has been a cornerstone of the UK festival scene, particularly at Glastonbury, and their influence can still be felt today. Their discography, from "Erpland" to "Spirals in Hyperspace," is a journey through soundscapes that are as vast and varied as the cosmos itself.
