Product description

Immerse yourself in the frosty, atmospheric soundscape of "Antarctica," a captivating soundtrack album by the legendary Greek electronic composer Vangelis. Released in 1983, this masterful work serves as the score for the Japanese film of the same name, directed by Koreyoshi Kurahara. The album, originally available only in Japan, has since gained international acclaim for its beautiful and peaceful compositions that perfectly complement the film's stark, icy landscapes.

"Antarctica" is a testament to Vangelis' unique ability to blend electronic textures with orchestral elements, creating a sense of vast, untouched wilderness. The album features eight remastered tracks, each offering a distinct sonic journey through the frozen continent. From the hauntingly beautiful "Theme From Antarctica" to the evocative "Life Of Antarctica," every piece is a testament to Vangelis' genius in crafting immersive and atmospheric soundscapes.

Recorded at Nemo Studios in London, the album showcases Vangelis' signature style, blending synthesizers, orchestral arrangements, and ambient textures to create a cohesive and immersive listening experience. Whether you're a fan of Vangelis' work or a newcomer to his music, "Antarctica" is a compelling exploration of sound and atmosphere that stands the test of time.

This 2013 Reissue LP is pressed on 180g vinyl.

  • Excellent Dynamic Warm Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars
    CoygajovepoNovember 26, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This is an excellent pressing. I haven't had the chance to listen to any of the original pressings, so I can't compare, but this one is incredibly dynamic and has that warm, analogue sound. I'm really happy with this release. The vinyl is super quiet, and there are no issues on either side A or B. It's a fantastic release. I think Music on Vinyl is a great label, and I've always been quite happy with their releases. Plus, they're not too expensive, and the packaging is always really classy. • Antarctica's Ambient Brilliance

    5 out of 5 stars
    EhewuzhuNovember 14, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This album is absolutely fantastic. It appears that Antarctica is somewhat overshadowed by the highly praised Blade Runner and Chariots Of Fire soundtracks, but that shouldn't stop you from experiencing this incredible music! In a sense, this could be considered either a full album or a single, as it features numerous variations on the Antarctica theme. However, I think with any soundtrack, you have a main melody that's creatively reimagined throughout. I believe "Antarctic Echoes" does this particularly well. It retains those familiar chimes but enhances the mood as if to suggest 'Part 2' of the theme. Some of the later tracks, though, deviate from the main theme, introducing new sounds and emotions. I haven't had the chance to see the film due to its rarity, but with such gorgeous background music, one can only imagine how effectively it's utilized in the movie, and I have no doubt that it is. This is Ambient music at its very best. Highly recommended!

  • Dynamic Pressing with Bass

This is an awesome dynamic pressing, with plenty of bass in the mastering. It's quiet too.

  • Tranquil Album Soothes Mind

A gorgeous and tranquil album. Fits perfectly with the movie. The album isn't exactly like the film's soundtrack but the themes are present. A record I go to often to soothe the mind.
