Caribou relocates to ANDORRA to keep crafting his electronic folk blends, and with the chiming "Melody Day," he settles right into the 60s vibe. "Sandy" carries on that mood, while "She's The One" injects a nervous romance. "Desiree" starts as a murmur then builds into a full harmonic crescendo, and "Eli" delivers pure, cozy psych-pop. The soft "Irene" remains hushed and subtle, before "Niobe" bubbles with sleek electronics as it evolves over its lengthy duration. A brief album, but I guess that's to be expected if you're based in Andorra.
Decent pressing, but wow, what a boring album. Picked it up in the Rough Trade sale bin for £15 and feel totally cheated.
The Milk of Human Kindness" didn't quite hit the mark for me, particularly after the mind-blowing experience of "Up In Flames". However, Dan Snaith has seemingly rediscovered his knack for blending stellar songwriting with delightful sampling. "Andorra" gives off those late-1960s rock vibes, yet upon closer inspection, you can still detect the electronic touch. The tracks on this album evoke a sense of nostalgia and intimacy. "She's The One" is a standout for me, as it reminds me of a Fountains of Wayne tune (I swear there's a similar melody in there). The orchestration, despite being synthesized, sampled, and looped, is spot on. The recurring flutes, the steady organs, the marching band drums in "Sandy", and of course the guitar—every instrument just sounds fantastic. And Snaith's vocals? They've never sounded better. Electronic music has never sounded this good. It's never sounded so much like psychedelic rock! I can't help but fall in love with it.
