Product description

Beirut's "A Study of Losses" is an expansive and captivating journey into the realms of chamber pop, baroque pop, and indie folk, set to release on April 18, 2025, via Pompeii Records. This 18-track opus is the brainchild of Zach Condon, who has crafted an album that seamlessly blends effortless songwriting with intricate instrumentals, making it a standout in his discography.

The album is a unique fusion of Condon's signature melodic prowess and a deep dive into themes of cultural loss, inspired by a German book and commissioned by a Swedish contemporary circus. "A Study of Losses" is not just a collection of songs; it's a carefully curated experience that weaves together 11 evocative tracks and seven enchanting instrumentals. Each instrumental piece is named after one of the lunar seas, adding a celestial touch to the album's narrative.

With a runtime of 57 minutes, "A Study of Losses" offers a rich tapestry of sounds and stories. From the hauntingly beautiful "Disappearances and Losses" to the ethereal "Mare Tranquillitatis," each track is a testament to Beirut's ability to create music that resonates deeply with the soul. The album's release will be followed by a tour, kicking off on May 1, 2025, giving fans the opportunity to experience these enchanting compositions live.

This LP is pressed on Black vinyl.

Great press! I'm really into that it's full length on 3 sides instead of a stretch 4 side.

  • Bent Corner, Minor Skip

    4 out of 5 stars
    hatuzefakyJuly 21, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

The package arrived with a bit of a bend in the corner (both the cover and the sleeve). There's a minor skip in one part of the record. I absolutely adore this album, though. I'm let down by the product's quality, but I'm still a big fan of Condon's work.

  • Surface Noise, Stunning Album

    4 out of 5 stars
    lasyoc_uqieJuly 12, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

In my version, there's a fair bit of surface noise and clicks... But it's not bad enough to mess up the listening experience. I just can't wrap my head around how stunning this album is.

  • Moonlike Bluish-Gray Pressing

    4 out of 5 stars
    seyo_apiasMay 20, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This one sounds way better than my old film noir version, but it's only half as heavy, this pressing looks more like a 140g one. Gorgeous color, it's a bluish-gray that makes the record resemble the moon, this is the ideal variant for this album.

  • Heavy Discs, Noisy Side One

    3 out of 5 stars
    woqe_ugiavMay 20, 2025United StatesπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Side one is quite noisy, lots of ticks and pops, especially in the calm parts. Sides two and three are much quieter (also, sides three and four have way more white specks than one and two). The discs are really heavy, they seem to be more than 180g, actually.
