The album is fantastic, but I've got some serious issues with the Brazilian CD version. What was the record label's thought process when they changed the original back cover art? They cut the photo nearly in two! This was only done in Brazil, and the outcome is awful. Plus, they left out the lyrics in the booklet. This is unforgivable, as the initial pressings of the last two albums stuck to the international norm (though it's important to mention that later re-releases, like the budget 'Best Price' collection, did away with the booklet).
Without a doubt, this is Lauper's second finest creation and a real oversight in her career. Songs like "My First Night Without You," "Heading West," and "I Drove All Night" don't borrow anything from the legendary hits of "She's so Unusual." It's a strong, well-connected album with only about two weaker tracks that don't disrupt the flow. Truly a hidden treasure of an album.
Out of Cyndi's three 80s albums, this one's got the top-notch sound quality.
Cyndi Lauper's final album of the '80s doesn't bring anything new to the table or hint at the upcoming trends of the '90s, making it seem a bit worn out and unoriginal. She jokingly calls it "A Night to Forget" due to its poor sales. There's nothing particularly bad about it, but without a strong single to back it up, it fails to make an impact. "She's So Unusual" had "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Time After Time," while "True Colors" had its iconic title track and the impressive "Change Of Heart." This album lacks that kind of standout hit. It's not awful, but it's certainly the weakest in Lauper's discography. A night without much to remember.
