This album is absolutely flawless and a must-have. Despite all the scratches on my disc, it still delivers amazing sound quality.
She's So Unusual marks the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper, hitting shelves on October 14, 1983, under Portrait Records. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the album was reissued in 2014 as She's So Unusual: A 30th Anniversary Celebration. The album climbed to number four on the Billboard 200 chart, boosted by the initial single's U.S. radio triumph and the music video's heavy rotation on MTV. In the following weeks, sales held steady thanks to the next four singles, Lauper's global tour, and her spots on popular TV and radio shows. The album spent a total of 77 weeks on the Billboard 200, becoming one of 1984's top-selling albums. Up until 1986, it was the second best-selling album in Canada by a female artist that decade, trailing only Whitney Houston's self-titled debut, with over 900,000 copies sold. She's So Unusual has since shifted over six million copies in the U.S., earning a six-time platinum certification from the RIAA. Worldwide, the album has sold more than 16 million copies. In The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics' poll for 1984, She's So Unusual was ranked the eleventh best album of the year. In a retrospective review for AllMusic, critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine described the album as a "delightful blend of self-assurance, bubbly popcraft, unapologetic sentimentality, subversiveness, and witty humor". Sal Cinquemani from Slant Magazine dubbed it "a pop classic". Alternative Press noted that, with "some standout tracks" and the CD reissue's three bonus tracks, the album "definitely deserves another spin.
A touch of 80's reminiscence. Amazing production and you can enjoy "pin to pin". Not a terrible song at all.
Stumbled upon a neat second-hand one at a thrift shop. It's got a decent sound straight out of the box, but cranking up the bass a tad really makes it shine.
Wouldn't normally go out of my way to get this Mofi, as I've got the original and CD copy. But… $25 at Amazon? You bet I'm in!
