I believe this is a re-release of that 1972 album. I own this version too
The reviews for this album and its different versions are quite mixed. This might be due to it being very much a product of its era (the early 70s) and a time in Ray's career where he had complete creative freedom, recording whatever he pleased. As a result, you get a set of overly emotional, somewhat cheesy tracks. Yet, as a middle-aged man from the 21st century, I can still find value in it. It's family-friendly and appeals to a broad audience. Being a big Ray Charles fan, I'm generally pleased with this 50th-anniversary edition. The mastering is quite good and engaging, doing justice to Ray's legendary status. It's definitely worth it for his gospel-infused rendition of "America the Beautiful." Perhaps more for fans like me, not exactly essential listening.
Haven't experienced any crackle like some folks have said. Great pressing by VMP and that first song is fantastic.
The sound quality is fantastic, but I was hoping for a poly lined inner sleeve instead of the cheap paper one that leaves marks and bits on the vinyl…the outer sleeve is also quite flimsy…not what I'd expect from VMP's usual standard
