Adele's performance and the recording itself are fantastic, I've got no major issues there. But let me tell you, this has to be the poorest "new" pressing I've ever bought - hands down. When I opened the factory sealed cover, I was convinced someone had slipped in a heavily used "G" grade vinyl as a prank. It was absolutely filthy with dust, surface scratches, and even fingerprints! Without a doubt, this is the noisiest "new" LP I've come across. I gave it a thorough cleaning on my VPI machine and left it in my ultrasonic cleaner for ages, but it didn't make a lick of difference (I've got the sonograms to back me up). This experience and my not much better encounter with the Adele 21 release makes me think the clicks and pops are actually part of the vinyl. Adele needs to drop XL and find a pressing plant with better quality control...
Awesome audio! Awesome build! I'm still getting the hang of the tracks but I'm really digging what I'm picking up. That B side's got some serious punch! Just a tiny thing. In between songs there's this kinda weird noise, it's like it flickers in and out. No biggie, but it's a bit odd for someone who's into seamless transitions.
I've been playing this on my old Braun P1 with a Pickering sxv 3000 cartridge set at 0.9 grams of force, and it sounds fantastic! The bass and treble are both excellent, with no unwanted noise like rumbles, ticks, or clicks... In my opinion, it's a great release.
The second side of this record is a bit too quiet and lacks dynamics. As for the first side, there's some hissing and a few skips here and there. It's gotten better after I cleaned it and played it a few times, but there are still a couple of spots that have some noise and skips. Plus, there's a small chip on the edge of the vinyl, and it feels a bit rough or sharp. I'm going to look into if there's a safe way to smooth it out. Any ideas? Apart from that, the sound quality is fantastic! There's some extra vinyl sticking up around the center hole, but it hasn't caused any issues. Has anyone else come across these kinds of problems?
This album is absolutely amazing. It'd be even better on a double LP, but oh well, that's just how it is. You can really tell it's way better than the digital version.
