I got a 'Elvis 77-97' sticker on my copy (on the front of the case)
This press is fantastic, absolutely one of my top picks. The audio quality is superb, incredibly crisp. Truly outstanding for a vinyl that's over 50 years old.
Among the scarce analogue pressings, Let It Be Me isn't pressed too loud. The bass on this one is incredible, by the way. I'd definitely recommend it. It's my top choice.
Even those who are huge Elvis fans might raise an eyebrow at the sheer number of live albums he put out in the ‘70s (that’s 6, counting ‘From Memphis to Vegas’ from 1969), but I genuinely believe ‘On Stage’ from June 1970 is his finest. To start with, there are no ‘50s song medleys, which, let’s be honest, aren’t my favorite parts of his live performances. ‘On Stage’ showcased Elvis as a modern easy listening singer - mostly tackling the pop hits of the time and making them his own. This would become the blueprint for most of his live recordings for the rest of his career. Plus, ‘On Stage’ isn’t weighed down by the often overly sentimental songs that marred these later recordings. Elvis was in great form, full of energy and dynamism - not exhausted and unhealthily overweight like he was on ‘Elvis in Concert’. ‘On Stage’ includes the ultimate versions of Elvis live classics such as the opener “See See Rider”, “Polk Salad Annie” and “Proud Mary”. My top picks would be “Annie” and Joe South’s “Walk a Mile in My Shoes”, which, although probably not originally meant for Elvis, suits the King perfectly as he seemed to truly connect with the lyrics. “Sweet Caroline” and “Release Me” are also pretty fantastic and proved Elvis was just as at home with new songs as he was with his beloved country standards. Another thing I appreciate about ‘On Stage’ is its brevity - not a single song feels out of place, which wasn’t always the case with his other live records. For the casual Elvis fan who isn’t usually into live albums, I’d definitely recommend this one. I reckon y'all haven’t ventured down south much…but there’s a plant that grows…that’s all they had to nosh on….but they made do…
Picked this up back in October 2020, aside from a couple of small crackles, a half-century old LP sounded incredible! The soundstage was vast, warm, and full, with a great balance of highs and bass. Vocals, guitars, and horns all came through crystal clear. Never had a US pressing, but I doubt a US dynaflex vinyl could top this. It's an amazing show to listen to, with plenty of room to turn it up and enjoy!
