Fantastic recording, truly warm analogue sound. Amazing show - most tracks in great versions, performance full of energy. Mr. Gilmour once again in fine form.
The audio is absolutely amazing in my opinion. The box is top-notch with gorgeous gatefolds and artwork, plus a lovely booklet. It's just right, not overly extravagant. The only downside is that my gatefolds had some splits at the top, but I reckon that's a shipping issue.
INCREDIBLE! Fantastic pressing! All tracks are perfectly blended and mastered for this masterpiece
As a Pink Floyd enthusiast myself, I get the hype around their new release, but let's be real and bid adieu to those nostalgic memories first to truly critique it. That way, you're more likely to listen with a discerning ear, which is crucial for a fair assessment. The pressing and sound quality are top-notch, and the packaging and booklet are also well-done. Now, let's talk about the music. "The Great Gig In The Sky" falls flat vocally compared to the original. Gilmour brought in an extra vocalist to try and mask the other singer's over-the-top shrieks, but it's not quite convincing. She comes off as histrionic, lacking genuine emotion and sounding too much like a poor imitation, which ends up being more irritating than impressive. You just can't replicate Clare Torry's backing vocals, and Pink Floyd showed us that in their later live performances. Then there's "One Of These Days". The drums... where did they disappear to? They're there, but way too far in the background, like someone stuck a mic in the middle of the venue. You can't pick out the bass drum or toms, and while the cymbals are noticeable, they're drowned out by the overly loud guitar solos. The track does have its highlights with a fantastic bass line, great drumming, and an insane guitar solo that almost feels like the guitar is singing. But that overall harmony is completely lost here. These are just two examples of where the engineering and mixing went off the rails, and they're pretty telling of the whole album. Too much nostalgia isn't a good thing, especially when you're trying to recreate a legendary concert. Adding a few new Gilmour tracks doesn't help either, it doesn't make it any less nostalgic (just look at Roger Waters' "The Wall" tour). Gilmour proved he could do better with "Live In Gdańsk". I personally found this concert to be a miss and am sending my LP box back. If you feel differently, keep it and enjoy it.
Fantastic vinyl pressing from start to finish, an amazing performance, I'm really digging this pressing and its sound quality more than the Pulse remaster. This one's got awesome bass, it'll definitely give your woofers and subs a good run! Loving the Gilmour era!
