To get the most out of your initial listen, I'd advise bypassing the Astoria tracks; they don't add much and can disrupt the otherwise flawless flow of this album. Instead, jump straight into the electrifying, fuzzy realm of Alva Noto's Haliod Xerrox Copy, following this suggested sequence: Copy 1 > 6 > 2 > 4 > 9 > 3 > 11 > 111 (meaning tracks 10, 7, 6, 2, 14, 4, 9 and 12). Each "copy" is a stunning masterpiece of meticulously crafted High Art. Listen as soothing hums of white noise cradle emotive strings, as metallic chimes echo their final tolls amidst a wasteland of static, as synth-strings chant a meditative hymn using entrancing compositional methods. Close your eyes as crackles of static transmission convey secret emotions and ideas through bleached synapses, and as somber (yet sorrowful) orchestration performs ominous basslines behind translucent curtains of agitated particles. Feel sprays of fuzz - so authentic you can almost touch them - build to urgent crescendos and then subside into an eerie tranquility, like the calming waves of a far-off shower. It's going to be a challenge to surpass the all-encompassing brilliance of this outstanding experimental album.
