Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
Quirky and charming tracks. The pressing is decent, not mind-blowing, with a touch of hiss. Mastering is alright.
Is anyone else in the same boat, having gotten an unsigned copy way back in September from the official Ben Harper store and still waiting on the corrected cover? It wasn't until the end of October that I got a return label, and I'm still stuck in limbo. I've reached out a few times, asking for a timeline and if I can at least expect the signed cover back before the year's out. But all I keep hearing is "We're working on it," which is beyond frustrating. I get that these things take time and there are hurdles to jump, but at least be upfront about what's happening. I'm guessing since they sent out a big batch of unsigned copies, this isn't resolved for anyone. But I'd like to know for sure...
This record is like a refreshing gust of Harper wind, truly it is. It's brought back the feelings that first attracted me to his music all those years ago. It's just Ben and his guitar, pure and simple. The pressing from Anti is fantastic (I've had some ups and downs with their other releases, but this one and the last I got from Josiah Johnson are really, really top-notch). The gatefold is stunning, as is the jacket and the photo/artwork. I usually steer clear of colored vinyl but couldn't resist this one, and I'm glad to report it's very quiet - side A was completely silent and side B had barely any surface noise (just an occasional tick) in the last two tracks.... it's barely noticeable at all. I'm absolutely smitten with this release.
I don't get why they're selling this version with a signed art print! The signature's on the front cover.
This album gives me those classic Ry Cooder vibes, reminding me of his slide guitar work in "Paris, Texas." I've never come across one of his records that I could listen to from start to finish without skipping tracks, which is why I'm so into this one by Harper.
