Zero pops or clicks, absolutely stellar sound quality, gorgeously colored disc, could be the finest sounding record in my collection. (The flexi disc is kinda lousy, but that's par for the course.)
Picked this up for $8 during a Barnes & Noble sale. Happy to finally have at least one Ben Folds vinyl in my collection… probably for quite some time…
The sound quality of the pressing is fantastic. I didn't notice any clicks or pops on my copy. The mastering is top-notch. The flexi-disc also sounds pretty decent (considering it's a flexi-disc).
I initially assumed I was going nuts when I noticed some distortion around the midpoint of side 1, but after reading these comments, I see others have experienced the same thing. To me, it's completely unlistenable. It's a real bummer that someone like Ben, who's got a sweet setup (McIntosh and all that jazz) would release something like this. I'm spinning it on a Rega P6 with an Ortofon 2m black cartridge and a Marantz 2270. Plus, it seems like Ben might've signed mine with a Sharpie when it was on its last legs 'cause it's super light. Just really disappointed with this one, oh well.
I agree with what's been said about the mastering earlier. The sound quality is decent, though. The vinyl is flat and has no noticeable hiss. I gave it a spin on the cleaning machine before playing it, and there was some gunk in the tank. It bugs me when the pressing plants don't smooth out the edges properly, but it's not a huge deal. To be honest, I bought this one for the signature. It's pretty neat to have Ben's autograph. I'm glad to have it in my collection of signed album covers.
