This is my absolute favorite Take Five track. The Desmond/Mulligan combo is just amazing!
This album is an absolute sonic masterpiece, not just for Dave Brubeck enthusiasts or those who love "Take Five." The sound quality is so immersive, it's like you're right there in the concert halls of Berlin and Paris, back in '72. It's an incredibly delightful listen!
This live album is absolutely fantastic and definitely worth seeking out. I came across a YouTube review for another Brubeck live album, The Last Set at Newport, which I think was recorded a year or two before this one. I must have confused the titles in my head since Gerry Mulligan was part of both albums. But I'm really glad I chose this one because it also features Paul Desmond. The second side is incredible, with an extended version of Take 5 and a brilliant piano improv of Rotterdam Blues that really gets the crowd and me excited. Brubeck wraps up the set with a short snippet of Sweet Georgia Brown.
The Dave Brubeck "Take Five" record from Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs is hands down one of the finest I've ever listened to. It's a personal favorite, just like it was for my Dad. Pure, top-notch bop!
Cheers to Dave & crew. Absolutely brilliant, as expected. Came out in '73, looks nearly flawless in '25. Deep, bold, timeless.
