Product Description

Immerse yourself in the rich, orchestral world of William Walton with his compelling collection of works, set to release on February 28, 2025, under the esteemed Chandos label. This album, "Walton: Orchestral Works," offers a captivating journey through Walton's masterful compositions, spanning a total of 63 minutes.

The album opens with the Troilus and Cressida Symphonic Suite, a four-movement orchestral suite arranged for violin and orchestra by Christopher Palmer. This suite is a dramatic and evocative retelling of Shakespeare's tragic love story, with each movement painting a vivid picture: from the grandeur of the Trojans to the playful Scherzo, the tender romance of The Lovers, and the climactic Finale.

Following the suite, the album presents Walton's Violin Concerto, a three-movement work that showcases the violin's expressive range and Walton's innovative compositional style. The concerto begins with a serene Andante tranquillo, followed by a lively Presto capriccioso alla napolitana, and concludes with a spirited Vivace.

The album concludes with Portsmouth Point, a vibrant and energetic orchestral piece that captures the bustling atmosphere of the historic British port city.

William Walton, a prominent figure in 20th-century British music, is known for his rich harmonies, rhythmic vitality, and evocative orchestration. This album is a testament to his enduring legacy and his ability to create music that is both intellectually stimulating and deeply moving. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rewarding and engaging listening experience.
