From the moment I heard the opening beats of "WAWG," I was transported back to my childhood days of tuning in to K-DAY. The initial seconds, with that match strike reminiscent of "The Chronic," hooked me instantly. While I'm a bit let down that WBALLZ was swapped out for DPGC radio, the rest of the album was a nostalgic trip down memory lane that I didn't realize I craved. Snoop's presence is more prominent than I anticipated, and I'm thrilled that his soft-spoken flow, which has kept him off my Top MC lists for years, is finally audible. Kurupt's lyrical prowess remains as sharp as ever, making "Who Da Hardest?" the perfect closer. With DJ Quik's samples, drive-by inserts, and middle-aged men rallying listeners to throw up their signs like teenagers, all topped with a maturity akin to Snoop's recent project with Mt. Westmore, this Dogg Pound reunion is a must-listen. Even though I'm still puzzled about Daz's role in the group—especially with Snoop carrying the weight on the mic and producers like Battlecat and Preemo handling the beats—I'm thoroughly satisfied with my first full DPG LP experience. -C.V.R.
