bit let down, you can tell some tracks are louder than others, always having to tweak the volume
The music on this album is absolutely fantastic, but I was really let down that the tracks don't loop like most video game soundtracks. It's not a big deal for the longer songs, but Bonetrousle being only 58 seconds long and not looping is frustrating. It's such a great song, I'd love to listen to it for more than just 58 seconds... I wish it would just play twice, maybe with a fade out to the next track (depending on the song, either a fade out or just switching to the next song after the second loop). Apart from that, the music is amazing, but in a digital format where time isn't a concern, I can't understand why some songs only play once.
The packaging for this is absolutely fantastic, 10/10! The picture sleeves that come with each record are incredibly high quality, and everything is so well made. I'm really, really happy with this release.
This is a really peculiar release, with some baffling omissions (why are Ghost Fight and Bergentrückung missing, but Premonition and the Temmie tracks included?), and the quality of the discs is quite inconsistent. The word search and the photo from the end of Pacifist/Soulless Pacifist are nice additions, though. Just get the Fangamer version instead. Edit 01/24/2024: After three years of ignoring this because of the better box set, I've noticed how odd this release is. The volume between tracks is jarring; Heartache is very quiet, then as soon as sans. starts, it suddenly gets much louder. Quiet Water plays (with a lot of crackling) at a calm volume, then Memory comes in louder than everything else for some reason. Dummy! plays right after at a strangely subdued volume, then the Temmie songs are so loud that they cause audible distortion in the sound, even more than the intentional distortion in the songs. This happens throughout the record; busier songs are toned down, while gag songs or very simple songs are, for some reason, extremely loud. I don't get why they did this. The mastering on the tracks is also quite poor. Tracks with pianos like Snowy and Snowdin Town clip constantly; they sound like they're being played off a crappy CRT. Dummy!'s vocal samples are buried almost completely under the rest of the song, making it less exciting to listen to. The busier tracks also suffer with instrument separation. The Fangamer release would fix all of these issues, so I think whoever mastered this was just being lazy. For some reason, the 8-bit tracks sound the best here. The art is also strange; Gaster was originally on the cover and inside gatefold with the Amalgamates, but all were eventually replaced with the Save Point... Even though the Amalgamates still show up on the front? And other FUN event related things are also still on the front? Really weird decisions all around.
Compared to iam8bit's version, this box set sounds absolutely fantastic to me. There's barely any surface noise, and every track is crisp and full of life. The artwork on each individual record sleeve is stunning, and the records themselves look as good as they sound – a perfect match! I'd definitely recommend it (buy it from Fangamer's store, don't support the resellers here. They probably don't realize Fangamer actually restocks their vinyl, unlike iam8bit haha)
