My version is spotless! I reckon this one blows my 25-year-old CD out of the water. I'm head over heels for it!
It's a real bummer that one of the pioneering grunge records by a band that would soon rise to become one of the most significant names in both that genre and the '90s overall was out-of-print for nearly 30 years... until now. This re-release and fresh mix breathes new life into the album, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers who've been eager to get their hands on it. Sure, there are some elements you might miss, like that tiny snippet of Sonic Youth's "Death Valley '69" in the Howlin' Wolf cover, "Smokestack Lightning", but this is still the ultimate way to experience the first chapter of Soundgarden's journey. It still carries that late '80s indie rock vibe, but Jack Endino managed to give it a fresh spin while keeping its essence intact.
Affordable and sounds amazing. However, I took off a few stars because both records were extremely dirty. Good thing I had a vacuum and ultrasonic cleaner. After cleaning, they're now spotless.
There's something oddly satisfying listening to this album on a cassette.
Fantastic remaster. Leagues better than the old tape I owned back in my teen years.
