Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
The Threepenny Opera" is down-to-earth, sarcastic, and rather unpleasant in its own way. Only Brecht and Weill could make it so amusing and rather alarming. The tunes and words are all first-rate. I particularly enjoy the "Happy Ending" part at the end, which pokes fun at the human experience of slogging through life. Bea Arthur is particularly funny in "Barbara Song" and Scott Merrill's performance of "How to Survive" is spine-tingling; Charlotte Rae as 'Mrs. Peachum' joining in his sentiment is even more unsettling. And no one could possibly deliver such a bitter interpretation of 'Pirate Jenny' than the one and only Lotte Lenya.
