Product Description

"The Smiths' debut album, released on February 20, 1984, under WM UK, is a seminal work that encapsulates the essence of the band's unique sound, blending new wave, Madchester, and jangle pop influences. Clocking in at a concise 45 minutes, this album is a testament to the band's ability to craft memorable, melancholic, and witty lyrics paired with infectious melodies. Tracks like "This Charming Man" and "What Difference Does It Make?" showcase Morrissey's distinctive vocals and Johnny Marr's innovative guitar work, creating a sound that is both timeless and instantly recognizable. The 2011 remaster brings renewed clarity to the original recordings, allowing both longtime fans and new listeners to appreciate the intricate details of the music. From the jubilant opener "Reel Around the Fountain" to the haunting closer "Suffer Little Children," The Smiths deliver a collection of songs that are as emotionally resonant as they are musically brilliant. This album is a cornerstone of the indie rock genre, offering a glimpse into the creative genius of one of the most influential bands of the 1980s."

This is a 2012 Reissue released as a LP.

Nice appearance, but it lacks that charming guy. Trash.

  • Crackling First Side

    Tj_N_3 January 2026United States🇺🇸

Got this copy recently, but the first side crackles like a bowl of Rice Crispies at breakfast. The second side, though, is crystal clear and sounds amazing. Maybe it needs a good clean - any tips on how to deep clean records, please?

  • Vinyl Bliss: Timeless Classic

    5 out of 5 stars
    duazgeve27 December 2025United States🇺🇸

this vinyl record is AMAZING! I've played this album a gazillion times on cassette when it first dropped and on digital, but listening to it on vinyl is like experiencing it for the very first time. It's so crisp and peaceful. 100 stars, no doubt!

  • Single Dip Labels

My copy is the same as this one, except it's got single dip labels.

  • Superior Japanese Pressing

    5 out of 5 stars
    Cogozu-UNW28 November 2025United States🇺🇸

Incredible pressing and packaging! Super quiet, with a punchy, dynamic sound. The instrument separation is spot on. The insert with the Japanese and English lyrics, plus the Japanese interview and band photos, is absolutely stunning. I was so lucky to find a mint condition copy in a store a few months ago. My 1984 US pressing sounds fantastic, but this one is definitely superior.
