Awesome audio, except it's got that tough left/right pan issue, like a lot of those old stereo LPs. Barely anything's in the middle. Grab it for the easy-to-listen-to Coleman, though! And that trumpet's smokin'!
I wasn't prepared for the panning to be so extreme, as if my speakers were facing away from me, with L pointing left and R pointing right, leaving a massive gap in the center... I can't fault the recording for this, especially since Coleman's alto and Cherry's trumpet are on the same channel, likely an intentional historical choice that can't be altered. That said, the sound realism is fantastic: the bass is rich and clear, the cymbals are distinct but not harsh, and the trumpet's mute is filled with harmonics (or overtones)...P.S. I encountered about 5-7 pops/clicks on each side, so if you don't own an ultra-sonic cleaner, be prepared for such surprises too!
Ornette's got a smokin' hot jazz mix here that's just dynamite! The sound is lively and my copy is pretty much flawless. No noise in the gaps and the record's as flat as a pancake. Grab this one quick!
The room's sound quality is top-notch. Just wait till you catch the sax and trumpet - absolutely flawless. They're so crisp and lifelike, it feels like they're right there with you. The drums are fantastic too, and the cymbals have a rich, full decay. The piano is a tad too soft, but the bass is clear, with each pluck distinctly audible. The brass instruments are split between the left and right channels, creating an immersive, powerful sound that hits you just right. The bass, piano, and drums all come from the right channel, with no center fill. There's zero hiss, zero distortion, and the music sounds like it was just recorded.
Sounds fantastic! Well played Bernie and Chad. Strongly suggest, Accessible Coleman 👍
