The initial vinyl I purchased had awful sound distortions that weren't caused by dirt or cleaning, but rather the pressing itself, so I had to send it back. After waiting for a while, I decided to order another copy; I just played the new record that had been sitting in my closet for around a month on my turntable and, to my dismay, the same horrible sound distortions are present in the exact same spots on the same tracks. What a terrible pressing of what should be perfect music. I suspect there might be an issue with the non-fill. I'll never be able to enjoy this record as much as I'd like, and I'm truly disappointed.
In this peaceful and personal jazz record, Keith Jarrett takes on the piano solo. There's a sense of confident excellence as most of the pieces are jazz classics. But it's Keith's skill in interpretation and improvisation that fills this album with such an abundance of grace, feeling, tune, and even love. Each note, each chord, each pause is thoughtfully crafted. The classic American folk tune, Shenandoah, is a remarkable piece. Keith adds to its rich melody, building it up, until it reaches an emotional peak. This album clearly shows that simplicity can be beautiful.
The audio quality of my copy is quite good, however, there are some irritating pops and crackles scattered throughout that need a thorough cleaning to eliminate most, but not all, of them. I'm happy to have it, but I'm somewhat let down that it's not in perfect condition like other new albums I've purchased lately.
