This is a truly delightful album of laid-back, popular jazz. It's mostly filled with classic tunes, with a couple of Jones' own compositions. Count Basie and Lucky Thompson join in, adding a lot of swing and a touch of excitement with Thompson's lively playing. Jones' original albums are still quite affordable, and while Vanguard might not get as much attention as well-known labels like Blue Note or Riverside, they've released some fantastic work, including records by Ronnell Bright, Sir Charles Thompson & Urbie Green, among others, so it's definitely worth exploring their collection.
