This album caught me off guard. It's truly fantastic, particularly if you're an Elvis Costello enthusiast like myself, as it's more of an Elvis venture despite the collaboration. I suspect Christopher Guest might have shaped this album's unique style, but don't interpret that as a drawback. There's some truly exceptional songwriting and innovation here. I'm thrilled that Elvis teamed up with his longtime friend. It's precisely what his career has been craving. His voice has certainly seen better days, making his recent live shows a bit tough to endure. On this record, though, he sticks to his strengths and delivers a convincing vocal performance. I'm overjoyed. For a while now, I've been stepping back from the intense fandom I've held for him over the past four decades. This release is a true victory.
