Wow, what an incredible live performance by Bob Brookmeyer and his band from '78, with Jack Wilkins on guitar. Finding Jack Wilkins records is like finding a needle in a haystack, so I was over the moon to finally come across one. He's an incredibly skilled player with a unique harmonic approach, and his technique is top-notch. It's great to hear Wilkins really let loose on this album.Brookmeyer, too, is in fantastic form. His tone is superb, and his playing is both innovative and rooted in tradition.I just wish the production and pressing were a bit better. The sound quality is rather weak, leading to a low signal-to-noise ratio. My copy is pristine, so that's not a concern yet, but it might become an issue with more play. Plus, there's a tiny bit of non-fill that causes some odd ripping noises occasionally. But putting that aside, the album is a joy to listen to, especially since I snagged it for just five bucks at Amoeba. Highly recommended.
