The music on this is absolutely stunning, the recording and pressing are top-notch, and it sounds fantastic. Cheers, Impulse!
This CD is in mono, which isn't stated anywhere. Unlike Impulse! CDs, which are in stereo, like Oliver Nelson's "The Blues And The Abstract Truth".
An absolute grand slam! Not just any homer, but a majestic shot to the upper deck, no questions asked. This is a Shigeo-like powerhouse of sound. The music is gorgeous, the pressing is impeccable, and the mastering is vast and intricate. A definite must-have for any collection. Equipment used:* Rega Planar 6 w/NEO PSU* Rega Exact cartridge* Rega Elex-R * Dali Oberon 5* Blue Jeans Cables + interconnects
I recently got this record, but it had the black, red, and white "Jazz Classics" sticker instead of the one shown in the photos. The sound quality is excellent, with quiet lead-ins and a well-balanced, rich audio overall. The music here is a cut above the mindless note avalanche you often find on many highly praised jazz records by bigger names. While there are some elements of that, there's enough structure and melodic play to elevate it beyond just another jazz note avalanche. Which is great.
My version has a few crackles and pops at the start of the first song, but apart from that, this reissue sounds absolutely fantastic!
