• Evanescence's Melancholic Masterpiece

  The Bitter Truth" proves to be a more powerful album than Evanescence's 2020 release, boasting a sound that makes you want to hit replay. I was genuinely thrilled to find myself stuck with this CD during this year's Record Store Day as I made my way back to my place. As you'd expect from anything Lee's involved in, the LP is dripping with melancholy. Surprisingly, it could grow tiresome, given Lee's usual knack for this kind of thing. But the music, ranging from Baroque to Nu-Metal, does a great job of keeping Lee's vocals in check. And topping it off with a Fleetwood Mac cover, it's clear where the inspiration for this record came from. Less abstract than its predecessor, heartbreak seems to be the central theme in Evanescence's discography, and "The Bitter Truth" is just another piece to add to the puzzle. -IG @djcvrthebard

  I'm absolutely in love with this album! The mastering by Sterling is fantastic, and I'm glad they decided to release it on two disks. It lets the bass hit like thunder, which wouldn't be possible otherwise. Normally, I'm not a big fan of GZ pressings, but this one is surprisingly flat and quiet.
