Fantastic re-release of an awesome album! Kudos MOV! *****
First album from Taj Mahal. He skips the steel guitar here, going more for that Chicago blues band vibe. Ry Cooder's on rhythm guitar, and man, hearing him rip it up on mandolin during Son House's 'Walkin' Blues' is just plain awesome. Solid pressing by MOV, nice and flat with minimal noise. It ain't exactly audiophile quality in my book, but I reckon that's down to how it was recorded.
I got to compare this pressing with an original UK version at my neighborhood record store, which had both. I gotta say, it's really good, but it's def not as good as the original. The VMP version sounds a bit less powerful, a tad more muffled, than the original. But it's not a massive difference either. If you can't snag an original (they're not that rare, I gotta say), this one might work too. But heads up: I'm the annoying audiophile type.
Great record pressing, glad to own this one. My copy is clean and quiet, with a solid sound.
I've got a NM copy, still sealed in its plastic wrap, up for grabs. If you're keen, just shoot me a message!
