The pressing is quiet and the music sounds wide and crisp. It has great dynamics.
Two copies straight had surface noise that was just not okay. Gave the V'GERS Transcendence version a shot and it was awesome. There's gotta be an issue with the glow in the dark pressing, or maybe I'm just having a bad streak. Temperature? It's an amazing album, though.
This soundtrack/score is an essential addition to any collection! Every aspect of this release is top-notch and expertly crafted.
There's nothing not to adore about the Star Trek (I) soundtrack! Always captivated by these melodies while watching this film as a youngster. Now, with more seasoned ears, I can detect influences from Respighi, Stravinsky, Holst, Dukas, and others. Furthermore, if you're a follower of Jerry Goldsmith's Planet of the Apes compositions, this is a fantastic continuation of that atmosphere. The recording sounds stunning, expertly blended and masterfully crafted by Wally. The pressing is flawless with no defects. Absolutely no issues to report. And after giving it a listen, I even watched the movie last night. 3.75 stars.
This is an absolutely fantastic pressing! I'm among those fortunate enough to own the original 3-CD remastered soundtrack, so that's what I'm comparing this version to... and it stands up quite well. I believe the CDs might have a tad more dynamic range, but that's only natural considering the differences between these formats. The orchestra, synthesizer, and blaster beam sounds are so incredibly massive that a vinyl master could easily distort during the louder parts, yet that doesn't happen at all... As another reviewer mentioned: don't hesitate to crank up the volume on this release. It's an utterly explosive, truly uplifting, and occasionally spooky score that's beautifully captured on vinyl. I'm really happy to have it in my collection.
