Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
SOUL SUMMIT, a collection of six tracks recorded in Feb '62, oozes a cheerful, laid-back atmosphere throughout. Ammons and Stitt's interplay is incredibly sympathetic, while McDuff mostly stays in the backdrop. "When You Wish Upon A Star", "Tubby", and the bluesy "Out In The Cold Again" are particularly noteworthy. Initially dropped in '62 with one cover, it was reissued in '66 with new artwork, which is also used for this 1971 version. The audio quality is excellent, with a great range, full-bodied horns and organ, and a wide, spacious soundstage. My copy has some scuffs and hairlines, but it plays beautifully, cleanly, with no detectable surface noise.
