  • Shout It Out: Stellar Production

    4 out of 5 stars
    zzaconkoh7 September 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

I was giving Scritti Politti's "Provision" a spin on vinyl to fine-tune my new speakers and ensure they were set up just right. Even with its flawless production, I wasn't entirely sold on the balance of the soundstage from left to right. I kept waiting for elements to be hard-panned, but there wasn't much of that going on. So, I decided to switch things up and put on this album. Original copy on Prestige, first press, and finally, my speakers got the test they needed to confirm my setup is spot on. The playing, the vibe, the arrangements—all the usual brilliance from Rushen. But let me tell you, the production is absolutely stunning. It's warm, it's 1977, after all...but what really surprised me was how beautifully the instruments spread across the entire spectrum, percussion included. It was a delightful revelation after all these years. So, in addition to all the praise everyone has for the music, a big 'shout out' to Patrice and her skilled team at the mixing desk. Hey, a 'shout out' for 'Shout It Out'. Just noticed I did that. :) Fantastic album.
