Jimi Tenor's first album, SAHKOMIES (inspired by Puu's label Sähkö), was reissued by Warp after they signed him, showcasing all the trademarks of his style. The vintage vibe of "Theme Sax" hints at a lounge atmosphere, while the organ riffs and clicks of "Crazy Hammond" strengthen this impression, with a soft beat and deep bass backing the sax in "Union Ave." Then, out of nowhere, "Take Me Baby" plunges into 80s electro frenzy, bringing along the cosmic bleeps of "Matti B" for what feels like an unusually extended period. "Teräsmies" revisits the quirky jazz, and "Travelin Dem Spaceways" has a dub vibe. Oddly, "Union Ave lll" almost sounds Middle Eastern with its fluctuating tones and sparse percussion. Fascinating, though not always succinct.
