Deadmau5's solid debut album, prior to his massive commercial success. "I Remember" is often highlighted, but the real gems are the instrumental tracks "Not Exactly", "Slip", "Faxing Berlin", and "Arguru".
It's really funny that they never bothered to fix "acousitca"
Alright, I know that just mentioning his name can spark a frenzy among certain groups, but I'm going to go ahead and share my thoughts. To start, I've never been a huge Deadmau5 fan. Sure, he's got some tracks that are incredibly catchy and hard to dislike, but over time, his music started to feel too formulaic and predictable. Not really what I'd want to add to my collection. But, I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for giving people a chance. So, I decided to give the Canadian with the mouse head a shot and bought his album. It arrived on Friday, and I just stared at it all weekend. I didn't listen to it, just looked at it. The anticipation was killing me, and I thought I might just end up selling it. Finally, today, I had a bunch of errands to run, so I was going to be in the car for a while. I reluctantly grabbed "Random Album Title" and went about my day. To cut a long story short, I was really impressed with the tracks on this album. It wasn't just one overplayed tune after another, followed by some basic tech tracks. It was more progressive. It flows well, grooves nicely throughout. The tracks are well-placed and sequenced together seamlessly. I'm giving Deadmau5 a thumbs up for this one, even if it's a bit painful to admit. So, even if you're not a big Deadmau5 fan, I'd still recommend giving it a listen. I love it when an album surprises me, and this one definitely did!
While it's a bit odd to have a random 2020s melodic techno track in an otherwise late 00s prog house album, I'm all in on the concept of adding extra songs not found on the standard release. It makes the vinyl feel so much more unique and special.
As I mentioned previously, the 3 first albums by Deadmau5 are his finest work ---- Vexillology, Random Album Title, and Full Circle. All three reissues sound incredible.
