Alice in Chains keeps up the fantastic work they started on 2009's Black Gives Way To Blue with this brilliantly put-together album. Having two lead vocalists, or perhaps two lead singers if that's your preference, creates a really unique vibe in terms of songwriting, song arrangements, and harmonies. Jerry Cantrell has really honed his vocal style, and when combined with William's voice or even his own, you can hear a clear evolution that's been developing since the Boggy Depot album from 1998. The choruses on this album are absolutely killer and really deliver, and the way the tones (both from the instruments and the vocals) are manipulated brings back memories of the self-titled album era's dark, internal battles and agonizing struggles.
Fantastic reissue! If you haven't got it yet, this album's coming back in December, just wait. No need to feed the flippers!
Audio is fantastic. Super crisp with a really dark background. Each track packs a punch!
Snagged this little treasure on AIC's website as part of a bundle. They even had some copies available on release day for just $29. My heart goes out to those stuck with re-sellers charging 10 times the original price. On the plus side, the pressing and sound quality are absolutely phenomenal.
This album isn't really my favorite, it might be their worst in my opinion, but this version is fantastic
