  • Elegant Album, Flawed Release

    5 out of 5 stars
    wevedzohyofygo7 August 2025United States🇺🇸

The audio quality of this album, or more precisely, the sound of each of the three instruments, is sheer elegance. There's rhythm, there's energy, and there's mastery in their performance. If you're looking to pick something from Pablo's recent Analog re-releases, this is the one to grab. It comes in a super thick cover with a QRP sleeve. A Sour Note at the End - Sadly, the much-acclaimed record had a flaw with two loud clicks on the opening track (A1) and had to be sent back. Disappointing from Analogue Productions.

  • Joe Pass's Timeless Masterpiece

    5 out of 5 stars
    fxeusmakf9 July 2025United States🇺🇸

Among all Joe Pass albums, this one has always held a special place in my heart. It might not be as widely recognized as Virtuoso or For Django, but in my opinion, the combination of Duke's timeless melodies and Joe's smooth playing is simply divine. Ray Brown and Bobby Durham form an impeccable rhythm section, and their performance here is nothing short of spectacular. As for Joe... if you're new to his work, just give Satin Doll or Caravan a listen and get ready to be amazed. He wasn't just a virtuoso; he played with heart, wit, and passion, and this record showcases those qualities beautifully. Acoustic Sounds has done a fantastic job with this reissue; my copy is vibrant and clean. Any jazz guitar enthusiast would be remiss not to own this album.

  • Joe Pass Trio Shines

    4 out of 5 stars
    mikeCG_15 July 2024United States🇺🇸

Navigating the vast collection of Joe Pass recordings can be a challenge, but this album stands out as one of the top-tier releases that truly highlights his improvisational skills. In this trio setting, Joe's boundless stream of ideas shines as he masterfully explores some Duke Ellington classics. The opening track, "Satin Doll," sets the stage with a blazing performance. While Ray Brown, one of jazz's greatest bassists, and drummer Bobby Durham are present, they take more of a supporting role. Fans of Joe's chord-style guitar playing will be delighted by the extended intros packed with his signature technique, as heard in "Prelude to a Kiss," "Solitude," and "I Got It Bad." Joe's guitar tone, often an afterthought in his recordings, is perfectly captured here—warm and rich. This album embodies everything you'd want in a Joe Pass release. Highly recommended.
