this album is a set of creative takes from the arkestra; it's a real shift from their usual stuff, yet it stays faithful to their vibe. the tracks are uplifting and genuinely give you that parade feeling! it's out of this world, super fun music
This isn't what I'd call typical Sun Ra Arkestra material. Sun Ra did embrace this project and performed it in later shows, much like Marshall Allen's Arkestra does now. It's more for Sun Ra enthusiasts looking to relive their younger days than those seeking jazz compositions. It's a unique collection, that's for sure. It's a blast! The vinyl is in great shape too, nice and quiet.
What an enjoyable album this is! It's perfect for those who wish to gently explore Sun Ra's music but aren't sure where to begin or want to avoid the more challenging tracks. The European version sounds pretty decent, even if Kevin Gray mastered it. It's not quite audiophile quality, but after a thorough clean, the pressing and sound were really quite good.
