Product Description

David Gilmour's "On an Island" is a captivating journey through the realms of progressive and symphonic rock, released on March 7, 2006, under Parlophone UK. Clocking in at just over 51 minutes, this album is a testament to Gilmour's enduring talent and his ability to craft a cohesive and engaging musical experience. The album opens with the atmospheric "Castellorizon" and closes with the introspective "Where We Start," bookending a collection of tracks that showcase Gilmour's signature guitar work and evocative songwriting.

From the soothing melodies of "On an Island" and "This Heaven" to the more upbeat "Smile" and "Take a Breath," the album offers a diverse range of moods and styles. "The Blue" and "Red Sky at Night" highlight Gilmour's ability to blend rock with orchestral elements, creating a rich and layered soundscape. "A Pocketful of Stones" and "Then I Close My Eyes" delve into more personal and reflective themes, showcasing Gilmour's depth as a songwriter.

Throughout "On an Island," David Gilmour's guitar playing is as expressive and virtuosic as ever, with each track offering a unique blend of melody, harmony, and texture. The album is a celebration of Gilmour's enduring influence on rock music, and a reminder of why he remains one of the most respected and beloved guitarists of all time. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer to his music, "On an Island" is an album that demands to be heard and experienced in full.

  • 2006 Version Repressed

    5 out of 5 stars
    Larmwkukgk323 October 2025United States🇺🇸

This is a repressing of the original 2006 version cut by Scott Stratton, so it's basically the same original mastering.

  • Mid-Tier Energy Shines

    5 out of 5 stars
    odquuyiy121 June 2025United States🇺🇸

Solid mid-tier energy in this pressing! A laid-back and enjoyable listen. Vocals and guitar shine, while the percussion feels a tad recessed on most songs.

  • Original vs. New Vinyl

    5 out of 5 stars
    MW-Codioj7 May 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Identifying the original version can be a bit tricky as it lacks a booklet. However, you can spot an original by its double-layered cardboard cover featuring two openings in the sleeve. The newer version, on the other hand, is sealed on the front flap and has only one opening. The poster in the original is also made of double-layered paper. The cover of the original has a lighter blue hue overall, while the poster is a bit darker than the cover. Additionally, the original comes with a white paper inner bag lined with plastic. The original cover is about 12mm (1/2") larger in overall dimensions compared to the new release, and it was never issued sealed or with any stickers. The original vinyl is likely 140gm, whereas the new one is 180gm. The original features a circular white EMI logo with 'Music from EMI' written in the bottom right corner. Both versions share the same barcode references, but the original has its last digit on the outside of the code, while the new version has it on the inside. The first and last digits of the barcode on the original are also in a smaller font. In terms of sound, the original has a smoother audio quality, but both versions sound incredible with zero vinyl rumble.

  • Perfect Quiet Album Quality

    5 out of 5 stars
    yiwlipkim118 March 2025United States🇺🇸

I was a bit hesitant to purchase this album because of the reviews mentioning noise and crackling, given how quiet it is. I guess I got lucky, though, because my copy is perfect. There's not a single pop, click, or crackle to be found. The sound quality is amazing, with each instrument clearly audible. The volume is a tad low, but that's an easy fix with a volume knob.

  • Gigantic Gatefold Cover

    4 out of 5 stars
    ccucqakoihji25 January 2025United States🇺🇸

The gatefold cover is insanely huge. It's way too large for any current outer sleeve.
