  • Taj Mahal's Reggae Revival

    5 out of 5 stars
    HzRahia27 March 2025United States🇺🇸

Taj Mahal puts forth a commendable and delightful effort in this reggae album, truly capturing the essence and sound of the genre. He delivers impressive, roots-influenced renditions of "Johnny Too Bad" by The Slickers, "Slave Driver" by The Wailers, and "Desperate Lover" by Bob Andy, plus a well-executed take on "Blackjack Davey". While not every track adheres strictly to reggae, they don't quite fit the blues category either. "Why Did You Have To Desert Me", which at moments echoes Marvin Gaye's style from around the time of HERE MY DEAR, stands out as a standout. The audio quality is outstanding, featuring remarkably deep bass and a warm, detailed soundstage. My copy plays smoothly with just a minor patch of light surface noise during the initial spins of side two.

  • Taj Mahal's Reggae Masterpiece

    5 out of 5 stars
    Mvovipioil_Ytazc4 August 2024United States🇺🇸

Taj Mahal goes reggae! This is a fantastic record with incredible sound quality, masterfully produced by Taj himself, along with some remixing assistance from Bob Marley and Aston "Familyman" Barrett of the Wailers. The bass is so rich and powerful (essential for reggae) and the vocals and other instruments are mixed so perfectly. If you're a reggae fan and love Taj Mahal, this is a definite must-have for your collection. Sweetpapa Too Bad Taj just can't go wrong!
