Received my special colored version today! Absolutely gorgeous issue, it outshines many previous ones. The Record is a stunning clear vinyl that looks and sounds fantastic on the turntable. Particularly love the printed inner sleeve. It's way better quality than those flimsy sheets that came with some older issues. Well done, Capitol. 👌
While I'm not the biggest Bee Gees enthusiast out there (though I must admit they've created some truly incredible tunes and melodies in pop, rock, and music overall), I have to say this album doesn't particularly stand out to me. I'm referring to the songs themselves. Additionally, I find this specific pressing to be quite poor. I'm no audiophile expert, but as a musician and music lover since my younger days, and now a passionate vinyl collector, I can confidently say this is by far the worst pressing in my collection (tied with an unofficial Queen Greatest Hits pressing). The sibilance and imbalance between low and high frequencies are present throughout the record. I've read that Spanish pressings from this era have quite inconsistent sound quality. I own some good to great original Spanish pressings from the same time period, like Jimi Hendrix's Rainbow Bridge, Peter Green's In the Skies, and Bob Dylan's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Whenever possible, I opt for the original country pressing as it's closer to the original tape, but sometimes I can confidently choose a Spanish pressing. Not in this case, though. This is the only RSO label Spanish pressing I have. The label is quite ugly, perhaps that's a sign of bad sound quality too? I haven't been able to compare this one to the original UK/US pressings, so maybe the poor sound is from the recording, mixing, or mastering process? Could it be due to defects or wear on my copy? Doesn't seem to be, as there are no clicks or noise, it's just poorly sounding all through the record.

This is an amazing vinyl pressing of what I consider the best Bee Gees album out there. I don't own any other versions to compare it to, but it's a completely different experience compared to streaming! The level of detail and the clarity in the bass is incredible, especially on "Nights on Broadway," where you can catch when the bass dips just below the envelope filter's range, making the sound/effect slightly break up. I'm absolutely loving this record!!
