  • Live Show Captures Essence

    5 out of 5 stars

This unique show truly captures a broad range of their previous works. It's got a touch of flashy showmanship, yet it still grasps the heart of what they once were and probably performed for countless live crowds years back. This album embodies the live experience and makes it an essential performance to appreciate. The tunes are straightforward and incredibly upbeat. No doubt about it! They're clearly having a blast during their time in Japan.

This unique show truly encapsulates a broad range of their previous work. It's got a touch of that flashy showbiz feel, but it still grabs the heart of what they were all about and probably played for countless live crowds way back when. This album really nails the live experience, making it a must-listen performance. The songs are simple yet catchy, with an energetic vibe throughout. No doubt about it! They're clearly having a blast during their time in Japan.

  • Crusaders Live dbx Magic

    5 out of 5 stars

I'm checking out the CRP-16002 (dbx) edition of this album, and let me tell you, if it's got 'The Crusaders' on it, you're usually in for a treat. The band's playing, the production quality, and the overall musicality are all outstanding. Plus, since this is a dbx-encoded recording, there's something extra special about it from a technical standpoint. I've noticed that with dbx-encoded albums, during the quiet parts, it gets REALLY quiet! But then, when the dynamic range kicks in, you'd better watch out, or you might rattle the windows. dbx sure knows how to make the most of range expanders. The dbx encode/decode unit (in this case, the dbx 122) is a breeze to use, whether you're playing back a recording or encoding/decoding a tape. This particular album has all the classic elements of The Crusaders: Sample, Hooper, Felton, and Henderson play tight, solid, and really connect with each other musically. The addition of a symphonic orchestra for certain tracks just adds to the overall quality. Since it's a live album, the venue allowed the band to feed off the crowd's energy and vice versa. The songs were all previously recorded on other releases, but this album really showcases both the technology and the performers. You can't compare a studio recording to a live performance, but the dbx encode/decode technology and the performers themselves complement each other beautifully.

I've noticed that with dbx-encoded albums, during the quiet parts, it's seriously quiet!
