This album is fantastic, leaning more towards the "Fourth World" ethno-ambient vibe than jazz. The copy I have is super quiet and sounds great. It's a solid addition to Hassell's discography.
While the 'pentimento' approach implies a transformation of the original material, isn't it asking for too much to hope that not every song has that cut-and-paste glitchy feel? It feels like some of the collaborators could use a fresh burst of creativity instead of just lifting ideas from their Raster Noton peers. It's a decent album, certainly not ambient or anything you'd zone out to. Maybe Jon should team up with the Orb and Richard Devine next, perhaps each taking a side.
