About Lee Konitz

Lee Konitz, the legendary American jazz alto saxophonist and composer, left an indelible mark on the world of jazz with his cool-toned, cerebral improvisational style. Born in Chicago in 1927, Konitz was a founding influence on the 'cool school' of the 1950s and remained a prolific and influential figure throughout his epic 70-plus-year career. Known for his distinctively clean tone and unpretentious harmonies, Konitz's identifiable sound captivated audiences and fellow musicians alike. His strong musical curiosity drove him to consistently take chances and stretch himself, making each performance a unique and engaging experience. Whether exploring cool jazz, bebop, or hard bop, Konitz's innovative approach and technical mastery solidified his status as one of the most admired exponents of jazz. His passing in 2020 marked the end of an era, but his profound imprint on the history of jazz continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans.
