After giving this album a listen, I must say I'm pretty disappointed, Tijs. There's maybe 2 or 3 good songs, but the rest is just plain awful. At least in his 2020 releases, Tiësto had some solid bassline/bass house producers on his side. The production here feels weak and uninspired, and Daft Punk's 2010s electro sound just doesn't cut it anymore (had to say it). 2/5 Top tracks: Kaleidoscope Escape Me I Will Be Here
In my opinion, this isn't Tiesto's most captivating album; it feels quite commercial, like something you'd hear in a clothing store. That said, it's still a fun listen, even if it doesn't tug at your heartstrings. It's perfect for dancing and lifting the mood. My top tracks are "I Am Strong", "Here on Earth", and "Fresh Fruit". I'm hoping Tiesto goes for something more profound and less commercial in his next release.
Upon first listen to this album back in 2009, I was like everyone else, thinking 'Tiesto, what were you thinking?' But after a few years, it's really grown on me. It might not be a masterpiece from a Trance standpoint, but viewed through Progressive House glasses, it's quite an impressive record.
This album might not be the best ever made, and it might not be a masterpiece, but it's certainly different and worth a listen. It's yet another example of how Tiesto can successfully tackle various projects with great results. Each song on Kaleidoscope has its own unique idea. Plus, there are some truly amazing tracks that are incredibly well-crafted, like "Kaleidoscope" (which I absolutely adore), "La Ride," and "Fresh Fruit," for instance. Other tracks, such as "It's Not the Thing You Say," "Here on Heart," and "Feel It in My Bones," are simpler but still well-made and expertly produced. Some people criticize this album because it's not trance, but there's more to music than just trance. I really appreciate Tiesto for creating music that you can enjoy even at home during a relaxing moment, and he's done it with excellent quality.
Alright, so what happens when you mix lousy commercial electro and trance? You end up with a crappy album, to be honest. Sure, you can give each track a listen or two, but don't expect it to be anyone's favorite except for those who love cheesy stuff.
