This album packs a punch with its strong sound and is a blast to listen to, featuring some smooth, easygoing jazz tunes.
Modern Art, that's contemporary jazz, it's jazz that grooves and moves with elegance without being conventional, it sits in the soft blue spectrum, it's subtle, harmonious, soulful and breezy; yet it's never sluggish and never traditional. There's a delicate touch to the music here that's unusual, as the musicians find more power playing together than soloing individually, presenting piece after piece that's dreamy, brimming with passion, and as boundless as a starry night sky. But all that's just my take, in 1958 Down Beat awarded the album five out of five stars, and that's quite an accomplishment indeed. The album and production are impressive on every level, the rhythms are varied, yet don't overreach, the compositions sound like timeless classics, though back in 1958, this was a genuine departure from the norm. All that's left for you to do now is to go enjoy yourself, Art Farmer and his bandmates have already taken care of the rest.
